Cadence Selected by Artimi to Speed Development of Its UWB Transceiver Devices; Fabless IC Company Deploys Cadence Custom Design Solutions to Accelerate Time-to-Market

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 2003--Cadence Design Systems, Inc., today announced that Ultra Wideband (UWB) startup Artimi is deploying a comprehensive range of Cadence's mixed-signal tools and services to accelerate time to market. Artimi, based in Cambridge, England, is developing silicon solutions for consumer wireless connectivity based on UWB radio technology.

Key to the agreement were Cadence's strengths in analogue design tools, specifically Analog Design Environment (ADE) and Virtuoso(R) Composer, which enable Artimi to automate its complete front-to-back analogue design flows for both full-custom analogue and RF IC design. Additionally, Artimi is receiving flexible access to the Spectre(R), Spectre RF, BuildGates(R) and NC VHDL tools, as well as consulting and support.

Some industry experts believe UWB will be the next wave in wireless communications, capable of surpassing existing technologies such as Bluetooth and 802.11 with higher data rates, minimal power requirements and greater spatial capacity. Artimi is developing low-cost UWB devices to enable a new class of consumer electronic products with enhanced wireless functions. Artimi's complete UWB silicon solution is targeted at the wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) markets.

"Artimi Ltd is developing the next generation UWB wireless LAN chip. This is a demanding task involving both analogue and digital design. We have assembled a world-class team of engineers, and they need world-class tools," said Jack Lang, CEO, Artimi. "We selected Cadence after extensive consideration. Not only are they great tools technically, but we feel that working with Cadence will give us the most cost-effective solution for our present needs. Cadence has been most helpful and responsive for our technical requirements and tight timescales. We are delighted to be able to work with them as partners in the project."

Recognizing the potential of leading startups in the UK and Ireland, Cadence has developed a series of technology and financial initiatives specifically to support companies throughout their early life. Using its wide industry experience, Cadence focuses on providing tailored support and software to help today's startups become the industry leaders of tomorrow.

"Artimi already has a strong pedigree in the emerging UWB market backed by its highly regarded and skilled team of engineers," said Guillaume d'Eyssautier, vice president and general manager for Cadence Europe. "Our industry-leading technology and flexible business model enables us to support Artimi as it grows and brings product to market. This agreement demonstrates Cadence's commitment to the startup community, both in technology hotspots such as Cambridge and across Europe."
